Today students have the period to finish their circle graph posters. Students should be finishing up their graphs and be ready to cut and paste information on their posters. If students do not complete posters today they will need to take them home to work on. The finished product will be due on Friday.

Today students will continue exploring area formulas. After going over last nights homework we will look at the formula for area of a trapezoid. (pg 283) Chapter 5 test on Problem Solving is on Friday.

Today students will discover how to solve and graph inequatlities with a variable. Students will explore with a partner what happens to the inequality symbol when you are dividing and multiplying by negative integers. Then, students will recognize the relationship between solving inequalities and multi-step equations.

Pound 7th Grade Math

Today student will learn how to create a circle graph from the data they collected last week in their survey. Students will complete the table converting fractions into degrees and use a protractor to create the required section of the circle. On thursday students will work on a "Math Mate" worksheet that has multiple problems assessing 7th grade math skills. The students will have the entire period to work on the worksheet.
HW: There will be no homework Wednesday or Thursday

Today in reading we listened to Chapter 15 of The View from the Cherry Tree. We took our Mystery Vocabulary Test. We worked on our book reports. Our eight paragraph book reports are due on Wednesday, January 11. Semester ends on Thursday, January 12. All work must be turned in by the end of school on Thursday.

Today in Geography we began our new unit on Antarctica with a special guest speaker, Carol Inskeep. Carol is a librarian at Urbana Free Library. Her presentation included books, maps, illustrations, and a word find. She also brought us in new pencils from the library. Tests taken yesterday will be handed back on Wednesday.

Today in class we completed our Pringle Print and Daily Geography warm-up activities. We took our semester final exam over the 25 Landform glossary words. There is no homework for tomorrow. We have a special guest speaker coming in, Ms. Carol Inskeep, to begin our next unit over Antarctica.

Today in class we continued to read our mystery book for total literature, The View from the Cherry Tree. We finished working on paragraphs 7 and 8 for our mystery book reports. The final draft of our eight paragraph book report is due on Wednesday, January 11.
Tonight's homework is to study for the Mystery Vocabulary final which is Tuesday, January 10. The students should bring home the 30 vocabulary words and definitions.

Today students explored how to solve equations with variables on both sides. Students worked on a problem about the tortoise and the hare using the equation RT=D. (Rate x Time = Distance) Students were assigned 8 problems with variables on each side to solve. They are to use their texbooks and notes to follow the steps that we followed during class to solve the tortiose and hare problem.

Today we are preparing for the 2nd Quarter Assessment which will take place in Tuesday's math classes. Students today participated in a "Jeapordy" style game of example problems from the test.

We are working so hard in reading. We listened to our total literature mystery book, The View from the Cherry Tree. We worked on the rough drafts of our book reports.

In class on Friday we began with our warm-ups, Pringle
Print and Daily Geography. We checked page 2 of the green study guide which was due. Page 1 of the study guide is due on Monday. Our semester final over the 25 geography terms is Monday! STUDY!

Today in Math Literacy students will get their last class period to work on the Vocab Map Portfolio. Students should take home what they have not finished. The portfolio is due on Monday. There will be a short vocabulary quiz on Thursday.

Today students will get continued practice on muti-step equations. After going over yesterday's homework, students will take turns participating in completing equations at the board. Students at their seats will have to complete all problems on a piece of paper.

Today students will learn and practice how to convert from ratios to fractions, percents, and to decimals. Once they fully understand how to do all conversions students will create a 5 choice survey to ask every student in the class. From the survey students will be able to create ratios of selected choices. They will then have to complete a table converting the ratios into fractions, percents, and decimals. This is a lead up activitiy to a project which students will be working on in the next couple of weeks.

Today students completed section 5-2 in their textbooks. We learned about how to solve
multi-step equations by combining like terms and using the distributive property.

Today students learned how to use proportions to calculate percents of numbers. We reviewed how to convert a ratio into a percentage and worked backwards from there to find a percent of a number. Once students were able to find percents of numbers we calculated discounts and sale prices.

Today in math class we spent time looking over the questions from yesterday's homework. We started the next section in our text books on opposites and distributive property. (pg 247) We completed Talk it over and sample 1. The problem of the quarter is due on Friday.

We worked on a list of things we did over the break. Mrs. Jackson also reviewed what we needed to know to complete our homework. Homework assignment is to ask the person you are going to interview the 15 questions you wrote down on the yellow page.

We did Pringle Prints and daily Geography. We will be starting on a review of the 25 geography terms we need to know.
You might want to start studying for the test over the 25 words - the test is on Monday, January 9th.
